Traditional saunas and infrared sauna blankets both make you sweat, but they get there through fundamentally different physics — and understanding that difference explains the real tradeoffs between them.

Two completely different heating mechanisms

Traditional sauna heats the air around you — typically to 170–200°F — which then warms your skin and body through that superheated air. This is convection heat: the air itself is the intermediary.
